KOTI CHENNAYA ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET2011-12 On the day of the Sports Meet, on Sunday the 8th January 2012, the Billawar Association, Mumbai sponsored KOTI CHENNAYA ATHLETIC MEET 2011-12 held at the UNIVERSITY GROUND, New Marine Lines, Mumbai-400 020, the Community Members energy dispelled the morning chill and the meet commenced with the opening ceremony. the University Ground was filled with gaiety. Flags of different colours fluttered in the air heartily welcoming the guests, participants, members from all local offices, and parents. The vivid and vibrant displays by the members ensured a mass participation of around two thousand young members.. 'The Waiving Flag' drill performed to a live band which rose the temperature high and to keep the momentum. The Sports Meet was inaugurated by our sponsored Bank, viz. The Bharat Co-operative Bank (Mumbai) Limited Chairman, Shri. V.R. Kotian accompanied with a noted Businessman from our community, Shri. Surendra Poojary, CMD, SAI CARE LOGISTICSLIMITED as the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests, viz. Shri. Raj K. Purohit, BJP Mumbai President, Shri.Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC-BJP Karnataka State, Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, VicePresident, MCA, Leading Hotelliers, Shri. Krishna Y. Shetty (Krishna Palace),Shri. Ravi Anchan (Trishna), Shri. Prakash Shetty, Ex-State Football Player,and Shri. Manmohan C. Gupta, Prop. M.M. Mithaiwala. The Opening Ceremony set the right chord for the day with the March Past of all the Local Offices and including Central Office and our steady partner in all our activities, THE BHARAT CO-OPERATIVE BANK (MUMBAI) LIMITED led by their Managing Director, Shri.B.K. Amin and their respective flags held high in the air. The opening ceremony guests led by our President, Shri. Jaya C. Suvarnatook Salute of our smart and agile members who were very much admired by the spectators for their outstanding performance in the March Past. Both male & female members and their families marched with military perfection and took oath to live up to the sportsman spirit. It was exhilarating to watch the colourful balloons that were let free by the Chief Guest & others, fly in the clear blue sky as a sign of peace & happiness of freedom. The sports-day oath was administered and the Olympic Torch lit by the Chief Guest was carried around by the last years Champions of the Koti Chennaya SportsMeet-2010-11. The events progressed meticulously on the dotted line, thanks to professionals who directed the Sports Meet with job well done by the Youth Welfare Sub Committee Members. The Mahila Vibhag had their throw ball event simultaneously. Then followed the most entertaining and awe-inspiring event the TUG OF WAR and frog race by tiny-tots. The afternoon session was all the more entertaining as it laid a platform for giving away prizes for winners of individual category at the Victory Stand. The Special Guest for the Closing Ceremony are Shri Mohan C.Poojary (Industrialist, Ahmedabad) as Chief Guest, Shri. Surendra A. Poojary,(CMD-Sai Care Logistics Ltd), Shri. Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC-BJP KarnatakaState, Shri. Chandrashekar Palethady, Editor, Karnataka Malla, were presentenjoying the session. The highlight of the evening was felicitation to two most promising sports women, Miss. Akshata Poojary, and Miss. Supritha Poojary, winners of 8 gold medals each in the recently concluded Commonwealth Power Lifting Championship held in London during December 2011. An insight given by Shri. Kota Srinivas Poojary on Koti Chennaya during his brief speech was quite interesting. And finally the most eagerly awaited, the prize distribution by our Guests, The Borivli Local Office walked away with Team Championship securing 106 points, way ahead from the Runners, viz. Vasai LocalOffice with 62 points. The Vasai Women were proved too strong winning Throw Ball event with Goregaon and Borivli securing second and third position respectively. The Individual Championshipsin Womens category went to Harshitha Yogesh Poojary (Dombivli 15 points),Samprita Suvarna (Dombivli 11 points), Deepika S. Kotian (Borivli 10points), and Shreya Y. Salian (Ghatkopar 10 points), and under Mens category,Devesh Poojary (Borivli 15 points), Mohnish Poojary (Bhayandar 10 points),and Shashikanta Poojary (Borivli 10 points). The impressive March Past prizes went to Bhandup (116 points) with photo-finish second & third place bagged by Malad & Bharat Bank respectively. The Sports day rejuvenated the minds of the youngsters, and parents, and of course all those who are actively attached to the Association, serving the poor & needy, the motto we unitedly stand for. The President, Shri.Jaya C. Suvarna was indeed pleased to hear a word of praise both in the Opening Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony by all the distinguished guests at the way the Sports Meet was conducted maintaining the discipline all along.
